Oracle Database Lite 10g
Oracle Database Lite provides mobile workers the experience of continuous access to data unconstrained by network bandwidth and coverage. It extends the grid environment to mobile devices, allowing mobile workers to access enterprise data even in the absence of a network connection.
Oracle Database Lite 10g is an integrated and complete solution for rapid development and deployment of high-impact applications for mobile environments. Oracle Database Lite provides a small footprint, SQL-enabled client database for local access to enterprise data by applications on the mobile device. In addition, it features the Mobile Server middleware component that supports scalable data synchronization and centralized management of mobile resources. The Mobile Server provides secure, bi-directional data synchronization in addition to providing administrators with tools to remotely manage users, devices and applications. The following architecture diagram illustrates a typical mobile application deployment scenario.

The main components of the Oracle Database Lite client stack are the Oracle Database Lite Client database for local data access, and device management and data synchronization clients that communicate with the Oracle Database Lite Mobile Server. The client stack is available on multiple platforms including Windows 2003/XP/Vista, Windows Mobile and Pocket PC, Linux, embedded Linux and the Symbian OS.
The Oracle Database Lite Mobile Server operates in the middle tier affording data synchronization with the enterprise Oracle database. Administrators may use the Mobile Manager user interface for the Oracle Database Lite Mobile Server to also perform device management, user provisioning, application lifecycle management, system management and performance optimization tasks.
The enterprise database tier stores the enterprise application data as well as the mobile repository, which contains metadata that enables Oracle Database Lite functionality. |
